My Yoga Love Story
My journey towards mindfulness started in early 2006. This journey did not start for the best of reasons, but has brought me a long way from the person who I used to be. In 2006 I was a passenger in a motor vehicle accident caused by another driver; which resulted in me suffering whiplash and soft tissue damage. This event was quite a shock for me and twisted my world around at the time. I began a journey of searching for methods of healing because the pain I was in at times was quite intense. I tried many different therapies, all having their own results and affects on my body. But it wasn’t until January, 2008 that I decided to try a yoga class.
It did take me quite some time to get myself to the yoga class, as I was very nervous. I was not flexible and my fitness level was not the best at the time either. But, thankfully, a friend of mine who had recently finished her teacher training told me about how there is not supposed to be an ego in yoga and that others don’t pay attention to you because they are too much into their own practice. Well, this sounded great to me! I was always feeling nervous in those group fitness classes with the big mirrors, so yoga sounded more like an environment for me. And well, I was in love right away! My first class was excellent and lead by such a caring and thoughtful teacher. There was no pressure to do poses that I wasn’t ready for and not once was I made to feel inadequate because of my inflexibility. I was hooked.
Since this first experience, I have tried different styles of yoga at many different studios; all with their own lessons to learn. Each class or workshop has helped me grow into a better yogi with a more open mind after each practice. So, my goal is to grow and learn more on my yogic journey, while spreading knowledge and joy to others and doing whatever I can to help them heal from their injuries as well. Namaste. ॐ
